A day at the beach
The beach of Sint Maartenszee is no more than a 10-minute bike ride from the campsite. This lovely beach has been voted one of the cleanest beaches in the Netherlands for years, and it has flown the Blue Flag for just as long, a European Union award for a clean and safe beach. The wide beaches are hugely popular with everyone, and you can enjoy a drink at one of the beach pavilions.
Other beaches nearby:
- Callantsoog
- Petten
- Julianadorp aan Zee
- Castricum aan Zee
- Egmond aan Zee
The Schoorl dunes
The vast dune area of Schoorl is one of the most beautiful dune landscapes in the Netherlands. Nowhere are the dunes wider or higher; in places they are as much as five kilometres across. The paths climb and descend past bird-rich woodland, open heath and rolling dunes. The Schoorl dunes are popular with cyclists, riders and skaters, and anyone looking for peace and quiet will find it here too.
Besides many cycling and walking routes there is a high sand dune to climb and a play forest for children. You will find all the information about the Schoorl dunes on the Staatsbosbeheer website. The Schoorl dunes are open all year round.
Het Zwanenwater nature reserve
Our campsite borders Het Zwanenwater nature reserve, an impressive area with dune lakes and a paradise for birds. It is wonderful for walking and completely unwinding. A must for nature lovers and birdwatchers!
Het Zwanenwater is open from 1 April to 1 August from 7.00 am to 9.00 pm, and from 1 August to 1 April from sunrise to sunset. You may only walk on the marked routes, which helps prevent damage to vulnerable plant species.
You will find more information about Het Zwanenwater nature reserve on the Natuurmonumenten website.
Luttickduin nature reserve
North of the Kooibosch and right beside holiday park De Nollen lies the Luttickduin, or the Luttjenollen. Just as on the beach today, a little heap of sand gathers in the shelter behind every small obstacle. Sometimes that bump of sand grew into a small dune: a nol. Because of the influence of the sea and levelling for agriculture, many nollen along the inner dune edge have disappeared. That makes the Luttickduin all the more special. The nollen are covered with grey hair-grass, heather and trees.
Please note: the unpaved paths are a walking area where dogs may run free. The cycle path lies a little further along and is surfaced with asphalt.
Bloeiend Zijpe
The famous colourful flower fields in our region are usually in bloom in April and May. During this period there are plenty of activities to enjoy them. Every year, for example, there is a walk in several distances straight through the bulb fields, as well as a cycling tour. A highlight in the most literal sense are the scenic flights from Den Helder Airport over the blooming bulb fields of the Kop van Noord-Holland!

Het Wildrijk
Het Wildbos is a small but stunning wood where you can enjoy a walk of just under an hour. Spring is the best time to visit: the entire forest floor is covered with a blue carpet of wild hyacinths. In the wood you will also find an unusual kind of pumping station, a barrel mill, which keeps the water at the right level. Dark ditches with mirror-black water run through the wood, making Het Wildrijk one of the most beautiful properties of Landschap Noord-Holland.
Download the Opstapp app during your visit. This enjoyable trail through the wood, put together by the ranger, teaches you all about the nature in the area.
You will find all the information on the Landschap Noord-Holland website.
De Goudvis play park
For a day of guaranteed fun with the kids, head to 'De Goudvis' play park. You will find no fewer than three indoor play paradises, offering 2,200 m² of play space and making it an ideal outing in less than perfect weather. There is also a large old-Dutch outdoor playground of more than 3.5 hectares, where children can swing, climb, jump and much more to their heart's content. For a bite and a drink there are several places to eat, including a welcoming restaurant.
We sell discount tickets at reception.
You will find all the information and opening hours on the De Goudvis website.
Hoenderdaell animal park
Retired lions, brown bears from Bulgaria, cheerful ring-tailed lemurs, brightly coloured lories and bounding wallabies. Hoenderdaell animal park introduces visitors to all sorts of animals, some of which roam freely through the park.
What makes Hoenderdaell animal park special is that the animals and their welfare come first. The park recreates their natural habitat as closely as possible. The enclosures lie in a beautiful, extensive nature area in Anna Paulowna. Hoenderdaell also regularly takes in animals in need and aims to return them to the wild. That is why there are always different animals to admire.
Stichting Leeuw is based at Hoenderdaell animal park
This is where lions and tigers are taken in, for example from a circus or from private ownership. Nice to know: Duincamping De Lepelaar has adopted tiger Vladimir and lion Max!
SOS Dolfijn is based at Landgoed Hoenderdaell animal park
We support this foundation. You can hand in your empty deposit bottles at our eetcafé for a good cause. We donate them to Stichting SOS Dolfijn, which runs a rescue centre for cetaceans (dolphins and porpoises) on the Hoenderdaell site.
You will find all the information on the website of Hoenderdaell animal park.
Land van Fluwel
Land van Fluwel in Sint Maartenszee is a unique hands-on woodland for young and old. During your visit you discover the true story of the tulip, from its origins in the wild to modern tulip growing. Young and old can easily spend a whole day here. There is a play paradise, a barefoot path, a maize maze, a climbing course and a small beach, plus a pleasant terrace where you can enjoy a bite and a drink.
