We do our bit for sustainability and socially responsible business

We are looking firmly to the future along the People Planet Profit principle: we aim to keep making a valuable, responsible and committed contribution to society, to the wellbeing of the planet and to a sustainable future.

Recognised training company

We are glad to do our bit for training the next generation, so trainees are very welcome with us, including those who come from further afield. We have trainees from the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany, and can offer them well-appointed accommodation in our Staffhuis.

Working with the Vakantiebank

Duincamping De Lepelaar is proud to work with the Stichting De Vakantiebank. This foundation works to make holidays possible for people who do not have the financial means to get away. De Vakantiebank gives families on an income around the level of income support the chance of a carefree holiday week in the Netherlands. Through our partnership with De Vakantiebank we are happy to help create good memories for families who really need them. We think it is worthwhile to offer families a place where they can unwind, step back from their everyday situation for a while and recharge.

Diversity among our staff

We judge people not by who they are but by what they do. Our team is a great mix of people from all sorts of backgrounds, and we are proud of that.

Sport & sponsorship

Sport brings people together and matters for a healthy lifestyle. We sponsor external sporting events, sometimes as main sponsor. We also do not send Christmas cards; instead we transfer an amount to a good cause or local initiative every year around Christmas.

SOS Dolfijn

We donate the proceeds of the empty deposit bottles guests hand in to us to Stichting SOS Dolfijn. The foundation runs a rescue centre for cetaceans (dolphins and porpoises) on the site of Hoenderdaell animal park.

Sustainable workwear

At Duincamping De Lepelaar we think it is important to extend our sustainable outlook to our workwear too. That is why much of our workwear is supplied by Goodfuture, a specialist in sustainable work clothing made from materials such as organic cotton and recycled fabrics.

We are GreenKey Gold certified.

We are proud of the (highest) gold GreenKey certification for our campsite. The GreenKey is an international label for sustainable and socially responsible business in the tourism and leisure sector.

To receive a GreenKey certificate, businesses have to meet an extensive list of standards covering areas such as social engagement, recycling, the responsible use of raw materials and the use of renewable materials. In practice this involves things like saving water in the toilet blocks, cleaning in an environmentally responsible way, separating waste, energy-efficient lighting and the purchase and sale of responsibly produced food.

Taking all these measures is quite a task, but we are happy to take on the challenge. In 2022 we regularly keep our guests informed about the initiatives and measures we have taken and are planning.

Energy

Working with OptiVolt, we ensure optimum current and voltage quality on our electricity network. That way neither we nor our guests draw more power than the appliances need.

In 2022 our new smart electricity cabinets were installed across most of the site. The software in these cabinets lets us set and read the amperage on the pitches.

The main building has had solar panels since early 2019. Our newest toilet block (block 5) has solar collectors for heating the water.

Drinking water

Clean water is becoming ever scarcer. De Lepelaar does not use mains drinking water to flush the toilets. For as long as anyone can remember, that water has come straight from the dunes.
